My Melody
Mar 26th
My Melody is a friend of Hello Kitty’s. I made her after seeing Yonaimy’s tutorial video. I really like her design of this balloon.
To make this balloon, you’ll need some white balloons – part of a 160 (for the flower), part of a 350 (for the face), and two 260s (for the body), and either red of pink balloons depending on what color you want her to wear – part of a 160 (for the lower part of her hood), part of a 260 (for the part of the hood that goes around her head), and a 350 (for part of the the hood covering the ears and the back of the head). I also used a yellow scrap for the flower.
The video is in Spanish, but it is very easy to follow!
There are a number of birthdays coming up, so stay tuned for more balloons! (Happy Spring Birthdays!)
Keroppi
Apr 7th
Here’s my first try at a Keroppi (one of the Sanrio characters) balloon. Actually, my second try. I tried to give Keroppi a striped shirt the first time, but it ended up looking like he was wearing a dress.
I didn’t have as much time for this balloon, and basically made the head similarly to the frog‘s head, and the body similarly to Hello Kitty‘s body.
You’ll need 5 balloons – two small white rounds for the eyes, one 350 of any color for the shirt (you won’t use the whole balloon), part of one 260 green for the arms, and one green 350 for the head and legs.
The head and legs are actually all connected/all part of one balloon – the balloon is just uninflated between the neck and legs. I was going to give him a bow tie, but I forgot!
Hello Kitty
Sep 17th
I made these Hello Kitty balloons for a friend’s birthday. (Happy Birthday A!) I’m glad Hello Kitty is still in!
To make this balloon: I followed this youtube video (Taken down.) Note that the girl teaching how to twist the balloon is an eleven year old!
Modifications: Instead of using all 260 balloons, I used a red 160 for the hair bow, a red 350 for the body, and a white 260 for the arms and legs, so that everything would be in more accurate proportions. (A 160 is one inch in diameter, a 260 is two inches in diameter, and a 350 is three inches in diameter. This was the first time I used a 350 balloon ever, so that was pretty exciting.) You can of course use other colors for the hair bow and body. The head is made from a 5” heart balloon.
I looked up some pictures of Hello Kitty online (sanrio.com) and used that to draw the face. I tried to keep the body relatively short (Hello Kitty’s head is bigger than the rest of her body!)
To attach the hair bow to the head, you will use what is called a raisin twist, which is a pretty cute and clever technique. You basically insert a small knotted piece of (uninflated) balloon into the balloon (the head) that you want to attach the other balloon (the hair bow) and grab that knot from the outside to attach the hair bow.
